Introduction

Humankind now stands at the precipice of a reality that harbors malign influence beyond human comprehension. Evidence suggests that we have the means to diminish its effects. But first we must consider how and why we have arrived at this critical juncture in our history.

We now discern the effects of ill-conceived social and economic policies that resulted in disparities with disastrous effects on human populations world-wide. Problems also stem from economic systems placed for short-term monetary gain that reward a minority-few while sidelining the mass majority. The net effect being an exponential increase in the disenfranchised-many. To correct this malignancy and to bring hope to those living at or below margin presents humanity with a moral challenge of extreme portion.

This will require a paradigmatic shift in our thinking, a shift that generates a heightened level of awareness, a global consciousness that embraces empathy and principles of justice for all. We must replace long-entrenched short-term economic policies that only benefit the few, to be replaced by innovative concepts and standards designed to root out endemic social and economic disparities that continue to spike an increase of marginalized and disenfranchised peoples.

The best way to correct this condition is to pool a viable resource of ever-increasing numbers of insightful peoples, that through a collective effort, personified by their unique talents and abilities, dedicate their time and energies to find solutions to challenging problems ailing societies world-wide; a process we refer to as Community Build.

Perception

Perception is a powerful element that’s often swayed by misguided assumptions. We can no longer base our perceptions of humanity on that which stems from false assumptions rooted in ages of oppression and exploitation. Humanity is now in a transitional age that requires a transitional mindset. It demands an unbiased approach to gain penetrating insight into the true nature of the human species and its current condition. Followup requires procedures placed to deactivate long-entrenched systems of injustice, the primary source of social, cultural and pathological disorders. They retard humanity’s ability to achieve sustainable objectives in accordance with its true reality.

Nature

We liken the complex social nature of the human condition with the biology of the species, where many parts operate/cooperate to achieve a desired outcome. Hindered performance by just one element will often affect to a greater or lesser degree the entire system. When this happens, specialized agents come to the rescue to activate healing. Mutual dependency is primary, without which humanity would cease to exist. Considered in another way; humanity has now a scientific story of evolution of the universe and our planet that details connection to the evolutionary process (mutual dependency). Its the intricate web of life back to its cosmic beginning. Because of faulty polices, we now experience disaster in the making, weakening of social and economic constructs, and realize we may be destroying our own continuity as a species.

History

When studying our history, we see evidence that human survival depended upon cooperation. This is contrary to assumptions that humans are born with a negative and aggressive nature that, when acted upon, assured its very survival. Recent archeological discoveries of ancient societies reveal inherent social constructs based on principles of mutuality that belie those assumptions. It’s possible, based on an event or a series of events, our survival depended on diversionary activity, reasons not known. Future archeological evidence will provide clarity on a series of possibilities. Meanwhile, a change in assumptions is necessary to ensure our positive move forward based on knowledge and truth.

Framework

For innovative planning to take effect, we first must embrace the above, then become knowledgeable about potential resources, i.e., those willing to become engage in this undertaking. Also, we must avoid planning from a materialist perspective, because centering our thoughts only on prospects for economic gains will guarantee a defeatist outcome, a mistake made by development specialist who had often designed uplift programs for the disadvantaged based on wealth acquisition.

Potential

To reiterate, to effect positive outcomes in the development arena will require understanding and appreciation for the human potential latent in the vast and complex nature of humanity’s diversity; to consider human commonality; assess humanity’s spiritual nature, the ‘driver’ that made possible human development for countless millennia — its source of inspiration, self-awareness, outstanding abilities, and infinite creativity.

Community

Development planning must account for the needs not just for the individual but for the community as well. It will include their spiritual wellbeing, education, training, means to become self-sufficient, and cultivate strong interrelationships. Individuals are knowledgeable about the interworkings of their respective communities. Strive to gain understanding of human relations from their perspective to be better able to contrast their experiences with others from a different cultural background.

Approach

Throughout this narrative, we mentioned “spiritual” and “spirituality”, and perhaps some of you equate these terms to religion, a particular religion, or a religious experience. That’s fine with us. From a planning perspective, we take a holistic approach to sustainable development; in that for development plans to experience even a margin of success, they must consider the totality of the human experience, that knowledge, understandings, and endeavors live in and stem from the unique background and experience of every individual. Plans must have engrained an inspiring capability to manifest the collective effort needed to create those sustainable pathways that help ensure humanity’s systematic progression through various stages and phases of endeavours to achieve stated objectives and milestones.

Diversity

Any approach to human development in a global context must consider the power and creative potential latent in the vast and complex nature of human diversity, when developed to its fullest will exhibit the capacity to propel humankind to heights far beyond conceivable expectations, given our current state of limited awareness and unchallenged perceptibility.

Strategic Criteria

We did not intend criteria for change to be all-inclusive, but to inspire creative thinking of the innovative criteria needed to advance the human condition beyond entrenched ideologies of a bygone age, in order to in-still hope and promise for an enlightened future.

Endemicity

At this point in human history, we now face deteriorating social and economic conditions with disastrous effects on human populations worldwide. The nightly news ‘talking-heads’ provides us with a plethora of information and solution-less analysis about this endemic colossus. Trepidation abounds, quality leadership is non-existent, unrestrained political disarray exacerbates the problems, and economic disparities continue to stagger an already aggrieved people that’s global in proportion. We must marshal support from like-minded individuals and kindred spirits to identify problems at their source, plan effective ways to mitigate current problems, and devise means to defuse the potential further disruptions in human affairs.

Proposal

We encourage a marked departure from providing solutions to problems based on flawed social and economic policies, systems, propositions, and analysis. Instead, conceive of a new framework, one with sustainable architectures and procedures based on human commonality and its spiritual core. With reasoning, common sense, and proper assessment we soon realize the power and creative potential latent within this duality, seeing it as a dynamic force to inspire human will and creativity, when released, propels humanity though various phases of development in its quest for maturity; meanwhile, generating the energy needed to devise and implement solutions to myriad challenges encountered at each phase in its development.

Pathways

We have a two-fold problem before us that requires immediate concern and deep reflection: How to discern those inherent but latent attributes that lie hidden within the composite nature of a diverse humanity replete with multitudinous complexities; when identified, how can they then be developed to help create those sustainable pathways needed to achieve prosperous futures.

This requires deep reflection and thoughtful consideration, where even thinking ‘outside the box’ will have its limitations. Such a challenge of immense proportion will require a wholesome exchange of ideas and made aware of diverse opinions. It will generate a consultative atmosphere in many quarters and venues, extrapolate possibilities, and simulate possible outcomes in development scenarios.

This process will provide us with a much clearer understanding of humanity, human nature, its basic needs, and future requirements. This has potential to provide the foundational elements needed to construct a visionary development framework that encapsulates the human experience within and across its divisions and borders, those real and imagined. We will then be better able to plan long-term, provide a series of waypoints (objectives) placed at predetermined intervals along sustainable pathways, on route to achieve a specific milestone.

Milestones

Milestones are of two types: those projected and those that emerge unexpected. Both are valid. The process might reveal a milestone in a novel way, formed due to key priorities, long-term program requirements, and the intense effort made to achieve a particular goal. The interactivity of ‘trial and error’ often makes predicting realistic outcomes impossible, especially when implementing programs designed to cover an extensive period. Changes needed at each interval (waypoint) will help ensure the pathways remain on route to achieve the next milestone.

Creativity

To pursue human development in a global context will require a massive amount of creative thinking, awesome willpower, unobstructed vision, supreme dedication, spiritual insight, and heightened sensitivity to humanity's plight going forward.

Change

Change always comes with chaos, expected given the turbulent nature of this transitory period never experienced in human history. What we propose is a viable framework for correcting systemic injustice in society, and mitigate those abnormalities place barriers to stymie human ability to achieve sustainability.

The central idea is to organize a collective of dedicated, like-minded individuals who are more than willing to provide their thoughts, talents and abilities to help conceive a viable plan of action with workable solutions to difficult problems. The framework we propose assists in this undertaken by presenting concepts and points of view to challenge current opinions, expand intellectual prowess, heighten awareness, and in the process make an appeal to expand global consciousness.

We wish to avoid conveying information that may foster misguided assumptions about our programmatic intent. To provide clarity, we hope to inspiration creative thought on ways to plan and implement a viable course of action to achieve long-term sustainable results within a global context.

Inspiration

We follow not conventional wisdom in development planning, but choose instead to focus on two composites for our source of inspiration: human commonality and its inherent spirituality. Commonality relates to all common material elements associated with the human species. The latter pertains to the spiritual core of human existence. It is here that we find its self-consciousness, talents, abilities, power, and infinite creativity. Together, they afford the best opportunity to maximize humanity’s ability to achieve sustainability.
